As mentioned there are 3 SHAPE sorts:
| | BALANCED | any suit has at least a doubleton | |
| | DELTA DELTEX |
with a singleton or void | the most common the 1-suiters but then from an 8-carder |
| | EXTREME | with a singleton or void | more extreme 2-suiters |
For the 39 shapes are totally
560 distributiions possible (140 per suit) : it comes concrete to:
| | BALANCED | 4333, 4432, 5332, 5422, 6322 and 7222 | |
| | DELTA DELTEX |
4441,
5440, 5431, 6421, 6430, 6331, 7321, 7330, 5521, 5530
8221, 8311, 8320, 9211, 9220, 9310, 10-111, 10-210, 10-300, 11-110, 11-200, 12-100 |
13-000 |
| | EXTREME | 7411, 7420, 8410, 9400, 6511, 6520, 6610, 7510, 7600, 8500 | |
In case there is a complete distribution relay sequence, the exact distribution
will be known for the
| | BALANCED | on the 3 |
| | DELTA DELTEX |
on
the 3
with the 4 |
| For above shape sorts at the same time is known if the distributions are min or max in the given pointrange (with a margin of 1 point). For balanced in an 8-12 range as 1st/2nd seat opening or 6-11 after Pass, you have beside it extra information regarding tophonours in a 5/6 card, bad/good/very well in a 4333/4432 shape, 7222 side-info. | ||
| | EXTREME | both suits on the 3 |
the POINTRANGES:
because they determine in combination with the 3 shape sorts the bid, the opening
or the bidding sequence.

1st

These ones fill the bids/openings

To examine the pointranges per shape sort :

| | Deltex* | 5-6 3-4 0-2 |
(or 1 Ace only ) |
| | Extreme | 4-6 3 0-2 |
|
| The two
lowest ranges per shape-sort will be indicated in the bidding through a
min or a max . In the upper pointrange for Delta, Deltex en Extreme a min
or max gives an indication of the total hand. You can see that the more the shape is extreme in distribution the less points are needed. These range statements are no point nonsense because the way you count your points (uncovered Jacks do not count, deduction for a Queen parade etc. are negotiated). Hence the revaluation of 1 Ace only OR a King + any Queen OR a Ace + any King). Other pointcount methods confirm this. Because our usual HCP count according to 4,3,2,1 has a shortage. Jacks and Queens are over- and Aces and Kings are undervalued actually. |

We have reached now the
PASS-bid , that means:
12+ Deltex and Extreme
13+ Balanced or Delta
and now for convenience's sake the starting point is that the Pass-hand wil
describe finally (direct or later)
(normally dependent on the possession of the other hand
qua points and the fix connected shape sort)
|
the
12+ range
DELTEX* and EXTREME |
of
the 1st / 2nd seat :
|
||
| |
12-15 16-19 20-23 |
each
time with a range disparity of 4 points
min and max present in that pointrange ----> so the margin is 1 point finally |

of
the 1st / 2nd seat :

with
a range disparity of 4 points min and max present in that pointrange
----> so the margin is 1 point finally
|
|
|
the
13+ range
BALANCED |
of
the 1st / 2nd seat :
|
||
| |
13-15 16-17 18+ |
||
A diviation of the highest
range can't and will not be given by the PASS-hand because there is a max+ in
the other hand (RR) since you gave constantly the
cheapest relay (see the basic sequences).
To say exceedingly: the PASS-hand + RR have:
18+ balanced, 20+ Deltex, 21+ Delta or 24+ Extreme opposite an18-22
balanced, 16+ Delta, 15+ Deltex or Extreme
and at least: the PASS-hand + RR have:
18+ balanced, 20+ Deltex, 21+ Delta or 24+ Extreme opposite a 14-15
or 16-17 balanced then the standard procedure (Balanced hand = relayer)
should be done on a 2+ level. This will be too high, reason why the balanced
hand wil be questioned and the exact distribution is known below 3
level for the14-15 range and below 4
level for the16-17range. 7222's are indicated including the number of side-Aces
in case it is a solid one.
This will happen rarely In practice, noticing the total number of points in
both hands
FOr the sake of good order:
in the sequence that the PASS-hand has a ++ and the other
hand a 18-22 balanced so totally at least:
18-22 Balanced + 18-22 Balanced so minimal 36 points
together or
20-22 Deltex + 18-20 Balanced so minimal 38 points
together or
21-22 Delta + 18-19 Balanced so minimal 39 points
together
The interesting one is the Balanced opposite the Balanced
naturally because then an Ace can be missing. Reason why at the same time the
number of Aces will be mentioned on occasion of the description of that 18+
hand of the Responder to Relays (so not the Pass-hand). In case of a
solid 7222 you know the number of side Aces too.
So far pointranges possible
in the PASS-hand.
----------
Now the ranges of the OTHER
hand (RR= Responder to Relays) after a PASS: those
ones have an identical design,
recapitulating:
Balanced and Delta in principle equal (now up to included 11 points) after that
Balanced per 2 points and Delta per 4 points.
Deltex and Extreme again 1 point under that and also a total margin of 4 points
(in final effect through min/max that 1-point margin again)
|

* Re: DELTEX:
In above schemes there is no distinction between an 8, 9-12 carder for symplicity
reasons.
A refinement is obvious regarding the length of the 1-suiter, provided that
this will not cause a memory strain for you The 8-carder as already mentioned
and per extra length card reduce 1 point in each scale.
So far all the pointranges possible and the sub ranges. A logical scheme and
easy to reduce.
As known there is of course the team-work of R and RR
when to describe a shape sort ànd the singleton/void hand description
with priority.
There is a discrepancy in the systeem regarding the singleton/void announcement
and that's the case of a Balanced 8-12 opening in the 1st/2nd hand because R
NEVER will be able to sell his limited singleton/void hand . There are anti-relays
available but that will be too much at the cost of the specific schemes for
that balanced hand. Up till now I could solve all eventual problems
Same for the bidding sequence : [Pas] - 1
(besides the 0-5 range the 1
balanced opening 6-11p. van RR is included too)
then R can not describe his limited singleton/void hand no more.
-------------------------------
If you would like to see above in bidding sequences, see the "basic
scheme" in which you see the description too of an eventual transfer
of the relayership in case of singleton/renonce shape.
-------------------------------
And now comes a very important
issue:
The great difference between natural bidding and bidding by relay-style is that
1 person is the Relayer and his hand is unknown. Thus unknown for RR
TOO .
In natural bidding you hear your partner bidding a certain suit, you will calculate
your own hand on the basis of that knowledge (or to be gathered information).
That's not the case in Relay bidding (on occasion of a break or natural bidding
directly after an opening you wil do that only). This implication forces you
to stick precisely to the above agreed pointranges and the handling in conformity
with the agreed fact how to count your points. You may not even cheat with 1
point. Sounds like a dogma. It is...
I will explain:
you can see that the majority of the pointranges has a margin of 1-point finally.
The Relayer relies on that completely. And certainly on occasion of a slam investigation
he will count your points. His conclusion could be: withoùt asking for
that, in view of all the information he has already, for example that there
must be 1 (that specific) King certainly in your holding . Alas.... RR had the
opinion to upgrade his hand, it was the Queen...sick. This example seems extreme,
but it can happen. You could say: "why did not the Relayer checked this
King? ". This may not always be possible in case the answer is: yes, I
have the K or AQ in question of the Suit Asking Bid-Suit - and certainly if
that suit is situated rather high in the steps hierarchy -resulting in a contract
above the wanted one..
Distribution points, even
if RR suspects under certain circumstances that
his longest suit will become trump, do not count at all naturally because the
shape sort itself is already known and the Relayer can ask for that exact distribution
(or if he prefers partly). The Relayer counts out your hand as it were qua possible
points and he will negotiate your eventual covered Jack(s). A revaluation of
your holding in your opinion of f.e. QJ98 could be opposite a singleton of the
Relayer's suit completely worhtless.
Handvaluation will not be excluded and a refinement in that can follow from
practice only and the experience with this system (for a 4333 or 4432 handvaluation
is involved). Of course there are exceptions, showed in the bidding examples.
But above "dogma" to be respected in principle.
If you do not see it as an impediment but as a practical good tool, there will
be no problem. Sense for that fact will grow automatically by gaining experience
with the Relayership . And reversed with theRR-ship.
Nobody knows at what the Relayer is aiming exactly and what will be the final
contract - expressed in a little bit exaggerated way - but with a nucleus of
truth.
You are free of course to deverge but be aware that the description of the system
and all the examples and bid contests are based on that treatment.
Although the whole system is defined in a very tied up way and with strict rules regarding the sequences, your bridge logic and judgement complete the entirety (see example).
