WOS
Weak Opening System.
There are several types, with different meanings for Pass and opening bids.
For REGRESsion, the Pass = 13+, and all other openings are weak

OPENING
If this is your first acquaintance with a WOS with a Pass =13+, you can be confused by the word "opening".
When you follow next line of thought :
-
do not say Pass = an opening. Pass is simply: 13+ and a "non-descriptive" bid
-
if a bid describes a certain pointrange + shape sort then it is an opening
-
a bid in both seats means the same, because of the symmetry, but, 3rd/4th seat openings are always after a Pass 13+,
so there is a difference in pointranges only.
in this way the openings keep their unique meaning and you know immediately that f.e.
-
an 1diamonds opening in 1/2 seat = 0-7 and an 1diamonds opening in 3/4 seat = 0-5
(you also can say : an
1diamonds opening after Pass instead of in 3rd/4th seat)
and f.e. in [Pass] -
1diamonds
is
1diamonds an 1diamonds opening after Pass = 6-11 short in diamonds (shortage openings have the preference in first opening calls)
-
treat the 1diamonds in 3rd/4th seat as a kind of Pass (because of the 12+ variant), so not to be mentioned as opening, lateron you can tell your opening, or you will hear the opening from your partner. f.e. in
[Pass] - [1diamonds] - 1diamonds
is 1diamonds an 1diamonds opening = 13-16 short in diamonds
-
treat in the start sequences [1diamonds] from the [Pass] hand as a "non-descriptive" bid too f.e. in
[Pass] -
[1diamonds] - [1diamonds] -1diamonds
is 1diamonds an indirect 1diamonds opening after Pass = 6-11 balanced with diamonds
whilst an 1diamonds
opening in 1st/2nd seat = 8-12 balanced with diamonds
I hope it will be clear to you. Above is a rough simplification but all will be fully explained in the basic sequences.

Doubleton versus Singleton
Balanced at least in each suit a doubleton
Shortness singleton or void . S-opening opening with s/v
Delta S-openings with 4441 up to 7300 distribution + you know the s/v suit
Extreme in fact S-openings, but you do not know exactly the s/v suit(s),
known is suit x min. or suit y and then max.
Deltex additional refinement of Delta and Extreme, that means the 1 suiter 8-12 carders from Extreme shapes inserted in the Delta scheme.

minimum, weak, fine.....
poor bad suit quality, òr in case of a 4333,4432 the total hand
good working points in suit (2 of 3 Tophon.òr if you wish 3 of 5), or in case of a 4333,4432 the total hand
closed = solid, officially AKQJxxx, but AKQxxxx is fine
minimum points; but f.e. in the 8-12 range a QJxx QJxx KQxx x = a minimum although a maximum in points
maximum points; same 11 points f.e. QJxx KJxx KJxx x
in case a minimum has a larger pointrange as 2 points: max|min = maximum points for your minimum pointrange

Hand pattern
shape general so it is Balanced, Delta or Extreme
shape sort which one of above three,
distribution type 4333/4432, 5332/5422 etc.
distribution your hand pattern f.e. 5332, 5diamonds332, 5diamonds3diamonds32 and finally:
exact distribution how many cards in each suit, graphically by ‹‹ 3253 ›› (in suit order)
numerical treat the exact distribution as a number

Relay
As explained in the introduction:
R
Relayer, the hand that is relaying
RR
Responder to Relays, the hand that is responding to relays
