I
will give you firstly the original seting up for this opening and the bidding
after 1
.On
the end of this page
you will find my version for REGRESsion. But up to you which one is best fitting
for your style.
Common
was in the past to use the 1
-bid
as the fert. Nowedays conservative but for REGRESsion I have maintained this
bid on purpose because with a greater/big hand in R it will give you in my opinion
better possibiities for an investigation.
"The
bidding after 1
is less precise, since the
shape of a hand is not determined at all, strength span 0-7 is vast and possibility
of being doubled calls for prudence. It seems then, that this part of bidding
should be unprofitable. In practice the reverse is true: profits are greater
than losses. It is so because of:
| | eventual losses from lack of precision are small, as the game problem happens rather rarely. (although...) |
| | better
position vis-a-vis classical players, whose pass in this situation carries
less information than a 1 |
| | 1 |
| | the defensive
apparatus of majority of players is less precise than their own system,
so the advantage gained is great, as the 1 |
| | of course this advantage is balanced by the losses after penalty double, but as the opponents do not know anything about their hands, the risk is not so great. |

| Bid | HCP | ORIGINAL Description |
|
After the double (business), safety is the first goal. One must find a satisfying suit at a low level, thus minimizing the losses. It is not always possible or safe to look for a well-fitted suit. Thus 7 trumps should do. To find then following means are emplyed: |
||
| Pass |
|
shows that the doubled suit is long OR fitting |
| new suit | must not necessarily be long, but shows that the last bid is short | |
| REdouble | S.O.S. with no biddable suit | |
|
At
the first reading all the above bids must be treated as weak and S.O.S.,
but they may also happen to be strong - of course the Responder's bids.
Especially the redouble substitute the regular 1 With strong hand the Responder should - after the first seemingly salvage bid - inform partner about his values through: |
||
| bidding in non-forced position | ||
| jumping invitation | ||
| bidding opponent's suit | ||
| optional double | ||
"
Because, as you may have noticed meanwhile/undoubtly, of the symmetric building of the REGRESsion system, I would like to suggest following alteration so that all will keep system-on.
That means treat the 1
opening in almost the same way as after [Pass] - 1
,
but now of course without the 6-11
" 1
"- balanced opening
