Never let it be said that Arno is ever caught by surprise. This is me shortly after having taken a shower. The parakeet is called Woodstock.
What vanity page would be complete without its own "About me" page? Having said that, there is not an awfull lot to tell, especially not when it comes to interesting things. In fact, I think the main reason for this page will be to have a place where I can put up some of the few digitital pictures of me. But as I am here, I might as well tell a little more about myself.

A boy and his parakeet. Doesn't he look cute? Though Woodstock's not bad either, is he?
Where do I start? Born in The Netherlands in 1975 as part of a set of twins, I sailed through life without many noteworthy events that would justify the electrons required to bring these stories to the reader. Sure, I fell of a playcastle and hurt my arm the day before summer vacation. Yes, I once lost my grip clibing over a rather pointy wall. Indeed, I once did take a left turn when I should have taken a right and walked for two hours through the Amsterdam Woods eventually ending up at a highway rather than the desired bus station... But honestly, you don't want to know about this, do you? Right. Let's talk vacation slides.

And here we have the little bird in all its glory. It's saying cheese here. Honestly. You believe me, don't you?
Now, seriously, what is there to say about me worth noting? When I originally wrote this page I had a pet parakeet named Woodstock, who is now resting in peace. I live, obviously, in The Netherlands. I have gotten the Dutch equivalent of a Master's Degree in mathematics at the university of Amsterdam (drs. Arno... Silly thing comes with a title. ;) ). I tried my hand at the one year teachers course at the same university, but soon became disenchanted with the long nights required to do the homework, papers and projects which severely got in the way of the actual teaching. Having given up on the course half way through I proceeded to apply for jobs involving programming. Since april 2000 I am working for the programming department of a large insurance firm.

Nasty people... I come to see a new baby and I'm being filmed without even knowing it. Say hello to one frame of Arno actually dressed in everyday clothes.
A large part of my spare time is spent online. There is some irony in this as till the moment I actually decided to take a look, I maintained that the internet was a big pile of... Hype, forgotten in a few years. Now I have a cable modem.
Most of this time is spent chatting in my favourite chatroom since pretty much the beginning, the Station 8 Gargoyles Chatroom. It seems to be a favourite meeting place of talented people who either make terrific drawings or widely acclaimed stories (in the fandom, that is). Feeling left out, and encouraged by my friends and Kessalia in particular, I corrected this situation by writing a story, then another one. At this point, given the sizes of the things, I suppose it would be fair to say I occasionally write too. ;)

This is just about all there is to me, I guess. A third of a lifetime in four paragraphs. If anything, that probably says a lot more about me than anything I wrote here. Now go look at the rest of the site. :)
