What better place to begin than at the start?
The summer of 2001 was possibly the most exhausting and most fun summer of my entire life up till then. Whereas my summer vacations up till then involved a week in a bungalow parc, which in itself was fun enough, that summer I did something a little more ambitious.
It started with The Gathering. The Gathering of Gargoyles is an annual convention for Gargoyles
fans, a place to come together and, for those of us who have met online, finally meet each other
in person. These Gatherings began in 1997 and, being born, bred and current Dutchman, I had yet
to visit one. That year I would.
I say it started with The Gathering because I had quickly concluded that after all the money spent on plane tickets, I would rather like to stay for a while. This photo gallery therefore does not only include tales and photographs from the Gathering, but from every day I was in the U.S.A. and had access to my cheap little camera. They are of interesting places, and of the people with whom I had the best vacation of my life.
Due to circumstances, we have been all over the U.S.A. At the top and bottom of this page you will find every leg of the journey. Clicking on each leg will bring you to the appropriate page containing the pictures and the stories related to them. You will find them rather small, so as to spare the server space this is on. Larger versions do exist though, and I'd be happy to upload specific larger versions on request.
Note that throughout my descriptions and stories I will be using chat names for the convenience of those who are not familiar with people's actual names, and to protect the privacy of those who may not want their real names to appear on the internet.
Haarlem is my home town. I was born here, raised here and I live here. Don't worry, I do go out sometimes, but only when I have to. Very few pictures were taken here, of course, however perhaps you would appreciate a picture of my mother's garden. Another highlight is my mother using e-mail. E-mail is, after all, so much quicker and more convenient than your average postcard. Yes, that is my bedroom, though I hardly recognised it myself. I must have cleaned it up for the occasion of leaving. All these pictures were taking in my absence. This is the home front. Don't worry, it'll get more interesting.
|My mother watering the garden||The first in a small collection of pictures of what I call home. Not just a picture of the garden, but of my mother watering it. The dynamic composition of a woman and flowing water. Hi mom! ;)|
|My mother's garden||Just watch it bloom and bloom in my absence.|
|My mother using e-mail||The miracles of the internet slowly seep into my mother's life as she contacts me from afar.|
