(Of the Sheep)
As most of us are aware, the western calendar is but one of several that exist in the world. Another well known one is the Chinese calendar. The Chinese calendar differs on a few fundamental points with our own. For one thing, the next Chinese new year will take place on februari first this year. For another thing, years appear to be named after animals. This is actually a quite complicated process whereby twelve animals are combined with five elements, each of which appears in a yin-Yang pair. This gives us a total of 120 combinations of which only 60 are actually in use. It is a very confusing and wasteful system. However...
2000 was obviously a good year. It has been listed as to year of the dragon! More specifically it was known as the year of the Metal Dragon, otherwise known as the White Dragon. The year of the White Dragon was followed up by the year of the Snake. A Metal Snake, if you will believe it. Unfortunately, after this affairs became dull with the year of the Horse. The Water Horse to be exact, also known as the Black Horse.
But 2003...
2003 will be the year of all the outcasts, all the people who do not fit in. It will be the year of the meek, the year of the follower, the year of the fluffy... Februari 1st we will enter a period dedicated to this most magnificent of creatures. We will enter the year of the Sheep! The year of the Water Sheep, also known as the Black Sheep.
This year will be a grand year indeed, and what can we expect for this year? It will be, Chinese fortune tells us, a year of mixed fortunes. It will also be the year where the glaring ommision will finally be corrected with the grand opening of the Sheep Gallery. It will be there for the duration of the year, to supply you with all your sheepy needs and desires.
