Portrait Painting of a Western Woman

size 22 x 15 inches

painting on silk
Meiji period around 1900

These painting on silk must have been painted by an artist
with a Western style art education.
Probably made in Yokohama .
Perhaps the lady had made her portrait painting on a visit to Japan.
It were prepaint paintings with only the portraitface painted later on. Also it is possible the they copied a western lithograph portrait of the lady in this painting, because the portrait resembles the style of French Japonisme lithographs made at the end of the 19th century in France.
