The goldlacquer decoration on this Nagasaki lacquer box was meticulous copied from a Dutch engraving of Carel Bendorp.
This engraving was made after a drawing of Jan Bulthuis.
" De Montelbaans Toren te Amsterdam"
The size of the goldlacquer decoration is exactly the same size as from the engraving 23.5 x 15.4 cm.

This engraving came from a book with different views of landscapes and towns in the Netherlands published in 1786 in Amsterdam.
