BRETT CABOT
"From his roots in the highlands of Papua New Guinea
and the tablelands above Byron Bay on the East coast of Australia
Brett Cabot has woven a mystical landscape spanning three decades and
utilizing all forms of contemporary media.
Brett’s seminal conceptual
and creative work with the Sydney Dance Company underscored their early
success with SOME ROOMS.
Brett is not only a visual and
conceptual artist but is also a talented musician and composer and once
again collaborated with the Sydney Dance Company in the evolution of
their work CAFÉ for which he was composer, musician and singer.
It is the area of computer animation that Cabot’s creative vision is
truly realised. From his early works on the Amiga 2000 through to his
cutting edge graphics on the acclaimed international game show
GAMEPLANETS Cabot has evolved an arresting style that is both
confronting and compelling.
Cabot’s early roots and his love of
nature, its confluence and its deconstruction, is apparent in this
current series.
We are familiar with the organic nature of the world he shows us but we
are challenged by its veracity and magnitude.
Brett Cabot, like the
Tribal Cargo Cult of the New Guinea Highlands, watches and waits knowing
that soon the Gods
will rain gifts upon us. His images speak of this
earthly journey and of our place in it."
