The handover of the money collected was on November 20th , in ID&T’s Cineac restaurant in Amsterdam. Everybody was there. Thanks for coming!
At 22:00 hrs I went on stage with Mrs. Ingrid Moons from KWF Kankerbestrijding (Dutch Cancer Society), I handed Mrs. Moons the cheque of the total amount raised until that day, and it was 50.000 Euro !!!
It was a hard and long run, it took me more than 8 months of serious training, but without all of you I could not have done it.
Thanks! Mrs. Moons explained about the project that I adopted for research on leukemia on babies till 18 months. Before the babies had hardly any chance of survival, but because of projects like these, a lot of progress is being made.
I have to tell you honestly that for the first time I felt uncomfortable on stage. I mean, I’m standing there with a cheque of 50.000 euro that is going to a this fantastic project on research for leukemia and all of you are watching and cheering me on. Really, I was shaking. A moment I will never forget.
I will go and visit the project with Marco’s sister Cindy very soon. I will give you an update afterwards.

November 7th 2004. A day I will never forget in my life.
The New York City Marathon, the marathon of all marathons. The hard training was not for nothing: 42,2 km (26.2 miles) in
3:47:41 !!!
THANK YOU ALL for giving me strength by supporting me in all ways, I really, really felt not alone out there. After 35 km, things got very heavy, but knowing I was running for Marco and for the good cause kept me in there!
A HERO is my buddy Patrick who guided me with his routine from Staten Island to Brooklyn to Queens to Manhattan to the Bronx, back to Manhattan and over the finish line in Central Park !!!
Special thanks to my friends and coaches Dirk-Jan Bakker and Ralph Hienkes for believing in me and preparing me for this ultimate test!
Very good news is that by running under the 4 hours, THANKS TO ALL OF YOU, I can give an incredible amount of money to the Dutch Cancer Society on November 20th in Cineac in Amsterdam so save the date. Even better news is that NEW people are STILL DONATING so the amount is getting bigger and bigger!!!

On september 22nd 2000, my buddy Marco Sparenburg died of leukaemia at age 30. He could not be saved, because medical science simply does not know how to cure or prevent this disease.
In order to save lives, more research is needed.
