The 60th anniversary of the Market Garden commemorations is over and life has gone back to normal. It is obvious that this was the last time that the commemoration was such an important event. But what  to do in future? Market Garden deserves permanent attention in the city of Arnhem, so that the visitor who visits Arnhem for this purpose, doesn’t have to wander around looking for relics. To give permanent attention to the toll that peace has cost its citizens, Arnhem developed the Freedom Trail in 2005. This is a trail of red tiles which runs through the city along important spots, related to the war, particularly to September 1944. For example, the badly destroyed Eusebiuskerk, the Airborne Monument, Jacob Groenewoudplantsoen and of course, the John Frost bridge itself.

On May 1st 2006 a further step was taken in establishing the Freedom Trail Foundation. More about this can be read under 'The Foundation'.

The idea for a Freedom Trail originates from Boston in the US. This trail was such a success, that it has become one of the largest tourist attractions in the United States.
