- Waarom staat dit bij de X-files? Omdat Goldschmidt dacht dat er
misschien Hopeful Monsters opeens tevoorschijn konden komen om
werkelijk iets nieuws te kunnen laten evolueren.
[1878-1958] Geneticist. Noted for his book, "The Material Basis
of Evolution" (1940), in which he advanced a hypothesis of
macroevolution via systemic or macro- mutations. This is popularly
known as the Hopeful
Monster hypothesis.
- Hopeful Monster
(np) 1. The expression of a systemic mutation as described by Richard
Goldschmidt. A pair of such "hopeful monsters" of
complementary sex might form the basis for a new species, giving a
saltational character to speciation processes
