Waarom staat dit bij de X-files? Omdat Goldschmidt dacht dat er misschien Hopeful Monsters opeens tevoorschijn konden komen om werkelijk iets nieuws te kunnen laten evolueren.
[1878-1958] Geneticist. Noted for his book, "The Material Basis of Evolution" (1940), in which he advanced a hypothesis of macroevolution via systemic or macro- mutations. This is popularly known as the Hopeful Monster hypothesis.
Hopeful Monster
(np) 1. The expression of a systemic mutation as described by Richard Goldschmidt. A pair of such "hopeful monsters" of complementary sex might form the basis for a new species, giving a saltational character to speciation processes
