This vessel for Hornbeck offshore will be also having a moon pool.
A moon pool is a feature of marine drilling platforms and drillships. It is an opening in the floor or base of the hull, allowing technicians or researchers to lower tools, instruments , flexible or rigid pipe into the sea. It provides shelter and protection so that even if the ship is in high seas or surrounded by ice, researchers have the opportunity to work in shirt-sleeved comfort compared to being on a deck exposed to the elements. A moon pool also allows divers or small submersible craft to enter or leave the water easily in a more protected environment.
Two double bottom sections are welded together with a V-Joint.

De tewaterlating van de "HOS Iron Horse" op 30 januari 2009. De "HOS Iron Horse" heeft plaats gemaakt voor bn 718 (Sleephopperzuiger) dat gebouwd zal worden voor het Papendrechtse bedrijf Royal Boskalis Westminster B.V.
