“Four civilians, unarmed. Five hostiles, armed…”
Rikko had to whisper, for the people he described were right below him, with only a very thin ceiling board separating him and Eva from them.
“Drop of five yards…” Eva estimated.
They had already done their job on weakening one of the panels as they were standing next to it. The weight of only one of them would make it collapse.
“I go first, give me three seconds and then follow…” Rikko instructed Eva, who nodded. Standard is two seconds. If Rikko wanted three, he would have his sword out when he landed.
They were standing in a civilian bank that was raided by several people. They didn’t expect the police to act as quick as they did, though, and were quickly surrounded. A SWAT team was sent in but neutralized. Then the police decided to take desperate measures and called in Declipse. Rikko and Eva were dropped on top of the building and from there made their way in to the only hostages.
“Ready?”
“Ready.”
This was the sign for Rikko to make a somersault onto the weakened piece of plate, breaking it and letting him through. Once he was below it, on the way to five yards lower, with rubble and dust falling all around him, he held his sword horizontal against his chest and activated it. This way he was a small but deadly ball with two large, sharp sticks coming out of it. He hit the ground and immediately rolled forward with the final momentum of his somersault. He didn’t look around carefully; his visor had marked the ‘good guys’ blue and the ‘bad guys’ red. Just follow the colours.
With a small thud, he heard Eva drop below him and a short charging sound notified him of her activated shield. This meant she would use firearms. Carefull.
Rikko didn’t take long to get him up and running, towards the first raider who was still trying to figure out what happened. He would be more concerned with the large hole in his chest a couple of seconds later, when Rikko was already on his way to his second target. Eva had already decimated two of them, but they were getting aware of their situation. Excuse me, they? Rikko had reached his target as he raised his gun to fire at Eva. With one side of his sword he cut off the man’s hand and then he turned his sword to penetrate the man’s back with the other side. When he turned around, he saw his last target drop in a rain of laser fire. This all happened in about ten seconds, with the hostages astonished to what was happening.
Eva moaned.
“I’m the shortest again…” She complained, looking at the only other girl in the room who was about one head larger then she was. All the other people were taller then Rikko, who snickered.
“No time for that, we need to get them out… Check the door.”
“That’s lead, no doubt…” Eva said, looking at it and grabbing a telescopic wand from her backpack. Lead meant they had no chance to look through it, for every possible ray was stopped by it. Eva could, however, lead a small camera through the keyhole. It was a needle camera, so it would fit through it, allowing Eva to see what was on the other side.
“Clean, no signs of life…”
Rikko nodded, quickly issuing orders to the hostages while showing his identification.
“Don’t get in the line of fire, don’t even dare to get away from my cover, stay behind me at all times.”
The hostages, too scared to refuse, only muttered that they understood.
“G-1, lead the way…”
The way outside was easier then expected. Only once they met really heavy resistance. Eva had to go ahead through a long hallway and suddenly got ambushed. She had to put all power on her shield to keep it up while Rikko tried to take out the ambushers. From that point on they had a clear way to the door and could they hand over the building and hostages to the local authorities. The gunship that dropped them off also picked them up again, dropping a couple of lines for them to climb up with. Another mission accomplished successfully
