PREY DETECTION....

As the python is virtually deaf, and only tremors are felt by it,  the snake will be attracted by the prey, as it moves in the vicinity, or the snake sees it moving.  ( a stalled prey is very hard to locate ). As soon as the snake identifies a meal in the animal, it will get excited, and flicker its tongue very fast in and out, gathering scents of the prey. The heat sensing parts on the lips will also play a vital part in ascertaining that it indeed is a warm blooded, suitable for a meal, prey. At that point the snake will go for the approach, and eventually the kill...
