BUILDING THE BIG ONE... PART 2

Last update 13-09-2003

As time progressed, the new enclosure had a lot of modifications made to it. As we were building it, we found out by trial and error what was best to do for my snakes and us.  Handling, feeding and even cleaning a cage with larger pythons requires the upmost in safety regulations.

The left pic below shows the wet zone of the enclosure, the right one the dry side. As my pythons love to swim, they can do so in here :-) The white bath in the left pic holds 100 liters of water, so plenty to splash around in. In the dry side there's the heating and shelter, totally casted in concrete and made from the best materials, by skilled people. The walls are all impregnated with all sorts of water repellant substances, to decrease mildew and so on... As you can see on the right picture, there's a 110*30 cm piggy blanket on the floor.

Below are the same sides, one week later :-) floorcover is added, lights are up, bath is filled and sealed...as you can see there's PLENTY room for 3 people in there, without creating a dangeroes enviroment..

AND FINALLY !!! after almost 1 full year, ( I started to place the bathtub at 10 October 2002 ) I only have to add some snakes :-)))))))) Look below for the first pic taken of the 99 % finished results... Looks great huh :-) My snakes do think so.... The main door can be locked in 3 places, is 7 cm thick and the windows are all re-inforced glass... Put a .45 hollow  in them, and it will not penetrate... neither will my snakes :-) In case of whatever I can acces from the left side, via the green door. There's the place where everything is controlled... Water in and out, electrics eg timers, main power ectect. Thus meaning that if needed I can alter everything, and even replace the water in the tub WITHOUT !!!! entering the snake zone... That's because somethimes, you simply do not wanna enter a place that holds Big !! burms :-) The thing on the right pic, in the doorway, is a heating fan. It's gone now and was used to fire up the heat a bit.

See Pic below..This is in my opinion a safe entry.... 180 * 70 cm and a good 7 cm thick.  And, yeah, that's me...  after another 12 hours non stop doing it !! finally I can say it's almost finished... ( not ) Well, it's only a matter of dotting the I's as we trial run it for 3 months with snakes.. In these months all the small errors we have, can be cleared.. And than IŽll only LOOK at it for a while... Took me a full year to get this far ( ej... demanding girlfriends, a long hot summer, and a lotta thinkovers ) and now it is time tio step back... and enjoy !!!

( look at Melanie in the bath, and Amanda at the sun spot )

below is a door closed view.. Also you can see the safty entrance and my ever so great Himotep structure... That still has to be finished.. See his other pics in the new tank part 1 pics ... He came a long way, to get this nice looking...

Yep, Melanie and Amanda love the bath... Here's a Melanie in there, all 3.75 meters of her.. the small things in the water are bits of floor covering, and are filtered out every 24 hours.

Wha look at that smile..... Say CHEESE Sweets...

THIS ENCLOSURE WAS MADE FOR, AND WILL ALWAYS REMAIN THE ENCLOSURE OF THE ABOVE SHOWN SNAKE :

MELANIE VAN WAVERSVELD, MAY YOU HAVE A GREAT LIFE IN THERE, AND THAT YA WILL ALWAYS REMAIN AS GREAT LOOKING AND DOCILE AS YOU ARE, THE FULL MORMEL STAFF LOVES YA !!!!!!

See pic below... The snake pit in action.. WHAAAA... Here are Amanda ( Green Phase ), Melanie ( Wild Phase ) and Sunshine ( Go Figure ) scouting out the new place... Especially Amanda loves the watertank... She takes a dip almost every night... Also look at the freshly molted Melanie... Shines like a star !! As all healthy snakes have a rainbow shine on them, it will be at a peak shine till 48 hours after molting... Melanie molted just 6 hours before these pics were taken... Sunshine is in a molting stage, so she looks dull... See more on her in the new pics zone..

Oni Tash Deana, back in QT... She will be added soon... it looked better that she would remain here for a while... She is almost 12 feet, and 60lbs. ( 4 meter, 30 kilos ) and came from a demanding clutch of eggs... so as ya can imagine she is a temperamented lady !!
