Together forever..

A brief update on the joining of a new snake in the terrarium...

Finally, Finally Finally !!!!! After : 3 weeks of QT, a couple of days recovery, 1 week alone handling, 1 month of getting to know eachother, and a total of some 15 rats ! up the road, I added Sunshinin'Diamond to the current main enclosure. It is a bit sooner than planned, but since I had to remove certain things, in the room of the big one, there was no better place for her, than in there.. How ever, Sunny is a wee bit smaller than Melanie ( 100/5 versus 240/25 ) so we had to be careful when we added Sunny. I was afraid she might be mistaken for a light colored lunch by Mel, or Morr. But since there all pythons, and there's only one male in the tank, no problems arose . Sunny went on a 10 hour !! tour the tank... ( for her size it's HUGE !! ) and then relaxed BESIDES Mel and Mor, near the sunspot. That's what I think is very interesting. Asif Sunny knows her place, she will be close by, but not stranguled with my others. If it is the fact that she might think that the other snakes are too heavy, or that she really knows her place in there, I dunno, it's only striking that she displayes such behavioer. Melanie and Morrison are getting to know her, and it looks OK so far. But Sunny does keep a distance..

The first 24 hours, I sat and watched !!!!???!!! to make sure she would not be attacked, but the moment she really relaxed in there, I did also. In the first few hours I had some good handlers standby, just in case we had to unwrap 12 feet of python, but they all went home, with nothing to do ( THANK YOU GOD !! ) I still feel she looks like lunch in there, but since Mel and Mor are OK with her, it's only the idea, I guess...
