“90% of the Big Fish are Gone.”

Not the words from some environmental die hards, eco terrorists, or sentimental fish huggers, but  the hard conclusion of scientists, printed on the Newsweek International  14 july 2003 issue cover.

Half a century ago it were the bigger land mammals such as the big cats, that were hardly known or loved by the general public, who were hunted to the brink of extinction.

Today it are the fish who are although reasonably known by the general public, they are hardly loved or appreciated at all.

Still, most big fish are becoming endangered species and should be protected.

The bigger fish becoming extinct is an warning and indication that the whole marine eco systems is under threat.

Besides  that this is very saddening this destruction and misuse of such a beautiful environment, also the  food source for many a people will be damaged or lost.

The Newsweek article pays attention to the marine eco system and over fishing, factory trawler fishing boats, and has some pictures including a dead seal trapped and died in a fishing net.
