Unless
a scuba diver with a limited air supply for up to 40 minutes, a snorkel diver
can be all day in the sea. Not dependent from heavy equipment, and a dive
boat with a fixed time schedule, the snorkeler experiences more freedom. The u.w. biotope with the
most abundance of colourful fish,
the most various biotope is the coral reef at a depth ranging from the
surface to about 15 meters deep. Well to do for a snorkel diver.
Scuba diving; tank diving, usual recreational depth is
20 meters, main purpose is enjoying the underwater life. Scuba diving is
great.
Free diving; breath hold diving that focuses on depth
records and spear fishing . All those activities are done in the open sea
where it is deep enough. To get quickly to deeper dephts where the big fish
are, the free diver has extremely long flippers.
Snorkeling; swimming
head down, watching the fish and breathing through a tube.
Snorkel diving; breath hold diving ,mainly in a
horizontal way, gives a much better
side view of all the fish, and the many cracks and holes with all their
inhabitants, from the coral reef. You don’t have to go deep, a few meters
will do. Extremely long flippers are not useful, makes you less flexible to
steer, can damage the coral and stir up the sand making the water unclear. A
weight belt will help you to stay down.
