Aerdt
Aerdt is a typical
little dike village with three gardens that can be visited, a special sampler
museum and a reformed church from the 13th century. De Beijlevelds Hofstede
is situated near this church.
Aerdt is one
of the six little villages of the municipality Rijnwaarden. The most famous
one is Lobith, known by the fact that the river Rhine comes in to Holland
there. (The water column on the warf in Tolkamer). The other villages are
Herwen, Lobith, Pannerden, Spijk and Tolkamer.
The
Gelderse Poort
A part of this
surroundings is the nature reserve "The Rijnstrangen" and an other
is “The Byland”. They are both a part of the larger reserve "The
Gelderse Poort". It has beautiful walking and bicycle routes
along the Rhine, the Old Rhine, The Waal en The Pannerdens Kanaal.
The
whole year round the ferry at Pannerden provides a good connection
to Doornenburg (Castle) in the direction of Nijmegen and visa versa. Also
you will find a foot-passenger ferry at Tolkamer for a connection with
the “Millingerwaard” where you can visit the "Millinger Tea
Garden".
During January
and February in the Gelderse Poort there are many tours to see geese.
The
area around Elten in Germany also has nice routes for cycling
and the "Eltenberg" gives a nice view over the Rhine.
In Herwen the
manor Huis Aerdt is situated, the visitorscentre of "De Gelderse
Poort". Here you will find all kinds of information about the birds
in this part of the Netherlands. Also a numberof organized walk and
