Tekstvak: MASH MILITARY ACTION

In 1982 AURORA introduced for the first time a playset, FALL GUY, based on a license from the film industry, one of the top rated TV shows in the US. We learned that thanks to the franchise, despite the 5% royalty we had to pay, we could spent a lot less advertising dollars to bring a set with success to the market.

Based on these results we negotiated with TWENTIETHCENTURY-FOX FILM CORPORATION the license for MASH. Despite higher minimum royalties we decided to acquire the world wide license,as the product development costs were minimal, very little tooling costs for new product was involved .
Only small military equipment on a pup trailer chassis. Jeeps and trucks were redecorated, the helicopter was purchased from HORNBY trains. The hospital was a cardboard construction..

During the 1983 trade preview shows the set was presented to the buyers. .
Together with the FIRE ENGINE PLAY SET and LAZER 2000 AURORA had some of the most exciting new product introductions during the 1983 NEW YORK toy fair.
Tekstvak: Tekstvak: AFX TRUCKS

The PETERBILT and the GMC ASTRO have a separate piece front chrome plated grill. The tanks and frame are also chrome plated as well as the two stacks. With the trucks we were in direct competition with Tyco US-1.To get our production costs down we were considering various options, one of them to change the chrome to black moldings. For the BIG RYDER trucks it was decided to keep the grill and stacks in chrome and black molded tank and chassis. Prototypes from trucks changing all the chrome were made,as shown on the pictures. On the picture of the yellow prototype you will notice that the trailer is all yellow as well..

On the AFX commercial dvd and in the international 1981 catalogue it shows a tanker that looks different as the products that have been released. In Europe we decided to go for the yellow tanker not for the chrome one, as for US market, but decorated as we know from the model train business. It is a battle we lost we got the yellow tanker in Europe ,but with a cheap label. The labels were printed in Singapore. On all the us chrome tankers there is the same label, however I am not sure other label exists.

Also a picture of the very rare 20 feet flatbed pup trailer. The combination consists of a PETERBUILD TRUCK with 20” ESSO CONTAINER AND ACL CONTAINER ESSO trailer is sold in Europe only, as Faller had a very limited production capacity for this container, single cavity mold.

ON the 4 November 2006 we are also present on the Sueddeutscher Modellrennbahntag. This is the biggest slotcar show in Europe with a lot of Aurora AFX, Tyco en Faller AMS slotcars.
