Tekstvak: In the UK, Aurora advertised its product line in a boy’s magazine called TIGER. In this magazine was published a comic called SKID SOLO. When the management approached Aurora to do a joined promotion a comic story was born, SKID racing the Aurora car during the Dutch grand prix. Aurora changed the 1835 car with extra decoration of TIGER on the wing and S.SOLO on the side. Decoration that was never removed in future production runs in Singapore, Therefore the systole car was available also outside the UK.

Tekstvak: Based on the success of the DVD we have decided to bring all this material together in a special magazine, including the complete comic book of S.Solo and original photo material of the F-1 cars mentioned above.

This magazine will be available end of March 2006 and can be ordered via the Dutch Aurora AFX Center for only 17.50 US Dollars including world wide mailing (without insurance). Make your transfer now to secure yourself a copy.

AURORA INTERNATIONAL CATALOGUE

During the last couple of weeks various collectors have asked me questions about this catalogue and especially about the cars. Most frequent question is about the black1798 BMW TURBO in black. This is a handmade sample and has never been produced, the final version is the BMW in red. More cars in this catalogue are handmade samples like the ALITALIA CAPRI and CASTROL RALLY ESCORT, final production cars have a slightly different colour scheme and different numbering. Second on the list of questions is about the SALAZAR WILLIAMS 1837,according to my records this car has been produced in Singapore, however I only have seen the handmade model.

A well-known collector from the US,EDDIE CASEY, spotted the yellow Tyrrell ELF 4 on page 15 with the lapcounter. He asked about the redcar on page 26,superturbo
Monaco with number 9. I realized that not to many people know about these superturbo cars , because we dropped these direct after 1981 Neurenberg toy fair. The pages were only printed in a very limited edition of 100 copies to be used at fair. Only the sp Monaco and sp atlantic were new models.

Tekstvak: FIRE ENGINE PLAY SET

This was the last play set designed by Aurora. It is a bit symbolic that it was a fire engine set. The fire engine with light was built upon a flat bed with a ladder from WIGARD, a german model company. It is sad that both car and set never made it to production, it should have been one of the first cars introduced by Tomy. The fire chief car was an existing collection model. The burning house and fire station were cardboard. For Europe Faller was already designing model kits to support this set. In 1984 Faller introduced a fire engine set with the very poorly designed TYCO fire engine. Richard Wadsworth designed this car first as part of the BIG RYDER concept, but set looked very strong as starter set with tv promotion.
