NATIONAL SHRINE RIJNSBURG

MAUSOLEUM of the Counts of Holland at the site of a former Abbey. Here are resting the Glorious Remains of Count Dirk I, the founder of the dynasty of the House of Holland in the 10th century next to the bones of the last ruler of the original House of Holland, ; Count Jan I (August 1299), the great Count Floris V and the pious Petronella van Saxen (November 24th, 1144), founder of the Abbey and widow of Floris III. Burried here are also Simon (1075 or 1147), brother of Count Dirk VI; Floris de Zwarte ´the Black´ (January 26th, 1133), also a brother of Dirk VI; Robert de Geilaerd ´the Horny´ (1185), brother of Floris III; Aleida (1200), daughter of Dirk VII; Henric van Gelre (1197), fiancee of Aleida; Baldewinus (July 19th, 1204), brother of William I; Floris (30 november 1210) , brother of van Willem I; Aleida van Gelre (Februari 4th, 1218), wife of Willem I; Count Willem I (February 4th, 1222); Count Floris IV (1234) and his brother William (Agust 30th, 1238).

NATIONAL SHRINE SCHEPELENBERG

On the Schepelenberg at the border of the dunes near Heemskerk is the place where all Counts of Holland were inaugurated. IN DUTCH: In het centrum van Kennemerland in de buurtschap Noorddorp van de gemeente Heemskerk, langs de straatweg van Beverwijk naar Castricum bevindt zich op de Schepelenberg het 'Huldtoneel' waar destijds hulde werd gebracht aan de graven van Holland bij de aanvaarding van hun regering.

NATIONAL SHRINE HUIS TE HEEMSKERK

IN DUTCH: Huize Marquette ten noordwesten van Heemskerk werd in 1254 gesticht door graaf Willem II als het Huis te Heemskerck; een ronde toren stamt is wat rest uit de tijd van onze tot Heilig Rooms Keizer gekozen Hollandse graaf. Een gracht geeft de contour aan van zijn voormalige ronde burcht, nu hotel en congrescentrum.

Near Muiden Count Floris V was killed as the result of an international politic complot, istignated by the British king and executed by Jan van Cuijk.

NATIONAL SHRINE HOOGWOUD

Hoogwoud was the place were count William II of Holland died in 1256 during a campaign against the Friesians. Hoogwoud is a village in the middle of Westfrisia, north of the railway between Heerhugowaard and Hoorn. It is part of the gemeente Opmeer in the provence of North Holland. In the Farm Museum West-Frisia, Koningspade 31, 1718 MP Hoogwoud, (+31) 0226 351431 the late Adriaan Donker, owner and manager of the Farm Museum dating from 1857 built a Maria chapel in the grounds of the farm to commemorate the Holy Roman Emperor Willem II, count of Holland, who was defeated in battle by West- Frisian troops at this spot. Opening times of the Hoogwoud-chapel: 15 June - 15 September, Tuesday. - Sunday from 13.00-16.30 Hour. Also open at other times on appointment for groups of a minimum of ten persons. Admission: Adults 3.50 guilders, children from 6-12 years of age 2 guilders. To reach Hoogwoud by public transport you can rail to Hoorn and take from there 5 zones with connexxion bus bus 49 direction Hoogwoud. The bus stops at Koninspade.

Hoogwoud verkreeg in 1414 stadsrechten van graaf Willem IV. Tevens kreeg Hoogwoud het recht om een eigen zegel te voeren. Het zegel vertoont een boom, waarboven een pelikaan. Dit zegel is tot de Franse Tijd gebruikt. Toen Holland onder het regiem van de Dietze Nassaus kwam te staan, dienden de oude stadswapens opnieuw te worden goedgekeurd door de Hoge Raad voor den Adel. Bij de aanvraag werd het oude wapen met de bekende pelikaan aangevraagd. Op 26 juni 1816 maakte de Hoge Raad voor den Adel bekend dat het Hoogwoudse wapen een adelaar kreeg toebedeeld. Waarom De Hoge Raad van Adel de pelikaan verving door een adelaar is een raadsel. Ook de oorspronkelijke kleuren werden veranderd in ´de rijkskleuren´ omdat ´de burgemeester van Hoogwoud geen kleuren had aangegeven´. Jawel, maar die pelikaan had hij wel degelijk aangegeven. In 1979 werd Hoogwoud bij koninklijk besluit opgeheven. De in de onstaansgeschiedenis van ons land zo belangrijke plaats werd verdeeld over het grondgebied van de gemeenten Niedorp, Noorder Koggenland en Opmeer.
