Melissa's new single!!

Melissa released a new single. It's a cover of Tom Petty's song called 'Refugee'. “I decided to cover ‘Refugee' because I wanted a song that spoke to my heart, my mind and my soul about where I was at, and a song I could share with an audience that I knew they could relate to, a song that was recognizable but that I could make my own. And considering what I'd been through, and what I seem to be representing now in my life, I think ‘Refugee' speaks to it perfectly.” Etheridge says.

Message from Melissa from the MEIN Board 19/01/2005:

Hello there boardies! I just wanted to give you a quick hello and tell you I am doing fine. I recieved my last chemo treatment (yuk) 3 weeks ago. I am on to radiation and then I will be done with all of this. It has been quite a journey, one which I could not have done without the love and support of my sweet wife Tammy.
Be sure and tune into the Grammys on Feb. 13th (I think that's the date...chemo brain) for a little surprise, but I warn you...I am bald. Yep, all of that fine full dyed blond hair is gone. It will grow back, slowly.
Thank you for all of your well wishes.
See you soon.

Melissa has underwent two surgeries, and is home now recovering. She's doing well, writing original songs for the DVD release of the film Brother Bear 2, and she is continuing to develop her ABC Sitcom. She's also writing new songs for her Greatest Hits album. You see, she just keeps on going like it's Never Enough!! I think Melissa deserves huge admiration from all of her fans for not stopping with making music after this. She's sucha strong personality. Following is a note Melissa left on the Support Message Board as a thank you to all of her fans:

Hi there, it's Melissa. I am at home recovering from my two surgeries. Wow, I didn't see this coming. But the good news is they took out the tumor and a few lymph nodes, only one of which was positive...the centinal node (for those that know breast cancer speak). After that my margins are clean! I still have both of my breasts and whether I will keep them is a bridge I have to cross later. What an unexpected journey this is.

Now, thank you all for your messages of support and love. Thank you for being the best fans in the world. Thank you for organizing and making those bracelets. I am humbled by your love and caring.

I will be entering the phase of chemotherapy next. Who knows what that will bring. I will be writing songs for the greatest hits album and after...(The Pink album, maybe?) I will be working on the pilot for ABC, and hanging with Tammy and the kids. I imagine you will see me again around the beginning of the year.

Tammy has been the greatest through this, her love is the most healing power I have ever known, and she makes me laugh. Thanks Tam.

So, have a great fall and holiday season, PLEASE vote on Nov. 2nd. and I will be back and rockin' in just a few months!

Be strong, speak true...
with love
Melissa Etheridge

LOS ANGELES - Singer Melissa Etheridge (news) has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has canceled upcoming tour dates to undergo treatment, her publicist said Thursday.
Etheridge, 43, will undergo surgery and a "speedy and complete recovery" is expected by her doctor, publicist Marcel Pariseau said in a statement.

The cancer was detected early and Etheridge has been receiving treatment, Pariseau said.

"I am fortunate to be under a wonderful doctor's care and thankful that this was caught early," Etheridge said in the statement. "I am looking forward to a quick and full recovery."

Etheridge and actress Tammy Lynn Michaels held a commitment ceremony in September 2003. The musician, who lives in Los Angeles, shares custody of a daughter and son with former partner Julie Cypher, who had the children through artificial insemination using a sperm donation from rocker David Crosby (news).

Etheridge's latest album, "Lucky," was released in February. Refunds for tickets to her upcoming shows will be available where they were bought; the entertainer's Web site says she had been scheduled to play 11 dates in seven cities this month.

21/07/2004

13/07/2004 concert pics added!! I took these pictures myself in Amsterdam. You can view these new added pictures by clicking here. I think both of the shows in Amsterdam rocked, Melissa has really outdone herself again! She started of the show with the title song 'Lucky', and she was very into the people in the audience. She reacted to a lot of things that were said by them, and it really showed how 'lucky' she must be feeling. I can't say anything different than that I'm really really glad for Melissa that she met Tammy, cause she really deserves to be happy. I hope I'll ever meet someone that has such a positive effect on me to be my partner in life.

WASHINGTON - Melissa Etheridge is speaking out against the Federal Marriage Amendment in a new online ad released by the Human Rights Campaign. "Is that what America is about?" Etheridge rhetorically asks in the ad when pondering same-sex couples being denied marriage rights. "We must fight this attack on our community from every part of
our community," said HRC President Cheryl Jacques. "We thank Melissa for her time and energy in fighting this attempt to write discrimination into our Constitution."

The U.S. Senate is expected to take up the Federal Marriage Amendment mid-July. This ad is a series of steps HRC is taking to motivate our community to contact their legislators and talk to family and friends about why the FMA is discriminatory, unnecessary, unwise, and undermines the constitution.

The ad features Etheridge strumming her guitar in a hotel room. The script follows:

"I grew up thinking you could do anything, and be anything, because that was the American dream. But because I'm gay... I'm denied that. Because of people's prejudices, I'm denied a civil right. Because I'm gay... I can never get married. Is that what America is about? I don't know... That's not the America I was raised in."

[text] Don't write discrimination into the Constitution.

The ad can be viewed by visiting www.hrc.org/ads

The Human Rights Campaign is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender political organization with members throughout the country. It effectively lobbies Congress, provides campaign support and educates the public to ensure that LGBT Americans can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.

The compilation also contains songs from other artists that also have been a guest on the Sesame Street show. For example; would you like to hear BB King and Kermit The Frog sing a song together? Of course! Well exactly, run to your local cd store and get this album! As you can see, Melissa had a good time with the her three Muppet friends!

16/5/2003

On this date, Radio broadcasted the first sattelite concert that Melissa took part in. They started a competition, in which you had to think of an original question to ask Melissa. And it seemed that my questions were original enough, cause I won an invitation to come to the studio, and witness it all live. There were like fifty people invited, so it was a very cozy show. It was a wonderful experience that I won't soon forget. A big tv-screen was put in the canteen of the radio station. On the tv-screen you could see Melissa play three live songs. She was is a studio in Los Angeles, and we could witness her doing that, because it was sent to us through the sattelite. After the three songs Melissa played us, the DVD-film was shown. It was almost the same as the regular DVD, but a few songs were left out. When the DVD was done, they connected through sattelite to Melissa again, and lucky fan Sasja got to ask Melissa her question. Well no actually, not HER question. Melissas management did not allow Sasja to ask Melissa the question she came up with, so she had to think of other ones. She came up with good questions. The atmosphere was very cozy, and it was a great experience for a Melissa Etheridge fan like me. The three songs Melissa played were also live in Curry & KidV's radioshow. Before Melissa started playing, Angela 'Woodenshoe' messed up their radioshow in a funny way, by running into the studio, where Curry&KidV were broadcasting live, and she grabbed Adam Curry in the ass. If you listened to the radio broadcast, you must have noticed! On the picture below you can see some of the people that were there, I'm on there somewhere too, but I haven't found myself yet.

Melissa played three new songs, that will be on the new album that will be released at the end of this year. The songs were called: 'When You Find The One', 'Good Enough' and 'Giant'. Soon you can hear fragments of those new songs on my audiosite, if you want them now, check out Chincheetah's sounds and sights page

14/5/2003

I won tickets for the radio 2 sattelite broadcast with Melissa Etheridge! Come back soon for the full report!!
