Special thanks to Jane and Terry at Terrane Promotions for allowing us to use their squadron badge images of the Army Air Corps.

Of course, updates are always welcome. If you have corrections or additions please send them to us !

During the 1982 Falklands war the British forces captured two Argentine Agusta A-109 helicopters. Later two additional examples were purchased direct from Agusta. All four are operated by No. 8Flt in support of the famous British specials forces "Special Air Service". The helicopters are painted in civil style colours which are changed every once in a while making it more difficult to identify individual examples.

Looking very smart in its 25 years celebration colours! The Army Air Corps display team is called Blue Eagles and they operate with a mix of Lynx AH7 and Gazelle AH1 helicopters from No. 671sq (Middle Wallop). Probably because of this No. 671sq helicopters often wear squadron markings. On this helicopter they can be found in the tail, with Lynx helicopters this bird usually is painted on the side doors.

Recently the AAC awarded the contract for the "new" Battlefield Light Utility Helicopter to Agusta-Westland Ltd. This means that the Lynx AH7 and AH9 helicopters will be modified extensively. The biggest modification will be the installation of a new, more powerful engine.

Currently the Army Air Corps operates with two versions of the Westland Lynx. The majority of the fleet are Lynx AH7 versions but three squadrons are equipped with the Lynx AH9 (No. 653, 659 and 672sq). The biggest external difference between the two types can be easily seen on this picture. The Lynx AH9 is fitted with a landing gear while the AH7 version has glides.
