Coins of the dukes of Brabant Brabant was the name of a
Carolingian pagus. It came under the rule of the Counts of Leuven (Louvain),
who enlarged their domain considerably between the 10th and 12th century, with
the county of Ukkel-Brussel , the abbeys of Nijvel and Gembloers, and the
domains of Antwerpen (1099). Godfried I "with the Beard" (1096-1140)
was the first called duke of Brabant. 1. 1.
