I expe- rience this on a daily basis as I work with a lot of OTs and oper- ating at that level is just how it is. Here am a couple of examples: ''Recently I had to do a cycle which entailed getting access to a locked space in compressed time, and I didn't have a key. Gaining access meant going all the way to the other side of the building - a long way - finding the person with the key; walking back over etc. "It was late at night and I was alone. Walking to the other side of the block by myself was not a good idea, besides I was almost out of time to meet a deadline. All the people who worked in the locked space had gone home long before, no one was answering the phone, but I thought to myself, 'just make it go right.' I decided that no matter what that door would open when I got there. ''That's exactly what happened. I was about 10 feet from the door when someone came walking right out. I was able to get in, get what 1 wanted and get out again in no time flat. ''Then a few days ago I had to make a delivery pickup deadline. A vendor had to get something to me, I had to check the con- tents fully and then get it picked up in time to make a flight. "I had made all the preparations I could think of including verifying and then re- verifying that the person picking it up was on his way to my office. The vendor bring- ing the package was on the freeway and the timing was very tight. "I went to Reception and found the pick- up person was already there, and was telling the Receptionist he couldn't wait. He was about to leave, WITHOUT MY PACKAGE! "I said to him at Tone 40, 'Don't leave! The very next person through the door will be the person with the package' Then I went out of sight into a nearby office and called the vendor to find out where my package was. When the vendor's Receptionist answered she said she had their driver on the other line calling from my office, looking for me! I put down the phone and went back to Reception. The pickup driver was standing there looking from the package to me, amazed. And he said, 'How did you do that?''' C.D.
