Second decision to be made was more of technical infrastructure issue. Do I need to get some personal server with all the required modules (like php/mysql/asp/.net) or could I use the existing infrastructure I already have? There were some advantages of having a dedicated (web)host, like to be able to completely create dynamic web applications. Of course there is a cost for this and I dont think it will be necessary for my purposes. The current (static) situation will do for now. Depending on the need I can easily move to a new server. Time will tell.
Regarding design, I wanted to have a bit of web2ish look, which is basically saying: fresh look, round corners, large arial font. Besides the graphical part you also need to use a "cool" javascript framework for the effects. Finally the buzzword AJAX should be implemented. Well it's quite a bit to get this all working and I will try my best to compete with all these requirements.
