"Linux is a free Unix-type operating system originally created by Linus Torvalds with the assistance of developers around the world.

Linux is an independent POSIX implementation and includes true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, proper memory management, TCP/IP networking, and other features consistent with Unix-type systems.

Developed under the GNU General Public License, the source code for Linux is freely available to everyone."

When I started learning about Linux (and Unix in general) I decided to make some notes about the commands I used to do things in this operating system. I decided that maybe other people can use these notes as a quick peek how to do something in Linux (or another Unix), so I put them online.

Feel free to download my Linux notes, current release # 2004.01.04

Besides Linux, there's another great UNIX freely available for the PC architecture. The name of this UNIX is FreeBSD. In some cases FreeBSD actually is a better UNIX than Linux, especially when it's used as a dedicated server. I chose FreeBSD as my firewall / router platform of choice, this because FreeBSD has proven itself in this area of computing for a great many years.

I made a small tutorial - also in Dutch - for setting up a FreeBSD based NAT-Masquerading firewall, which can be downloaded by clicking here.
