After the demise of gothic/doom band Terminus Est in 2002 the remaining six members plus a new keyboard player sought for new musical directions and started a yet unnamed band with the goal to play a more advanced style of metal then the former band. Due to lack of interest, musical skills or plain simple spare time seven became four and a steady line up was born:

Joris van Dijk (vocals)
Bouke Dittmar (guitar & bass)
Remco van Dijk (guitar)
Marc Raaphorst (drums)

With a break in between the band adapted the name Vargavinter as the musical style was greatly influenced by scandinavian metal by the likes of Opeth, (old) Katatonia and Skeptisicm to name just a few. Thus creating a melodic doom/death metal sound with a hint of black.

This resulted in early 2006 in the finalisation of the Destruction of the Norse Lands demo which featured the five best songs at that stage:

Destruction of the Norse Lands

Currently the band has been working with soprano Susanne Quaak to introduce some new elements in older songs with the goal to release a 2 song EP: Siren o/t Woods. In the meanwhile new songs have been composed which will feature a more profound blend of black, doom and in lesser extent death metal with some jazzy vibes to it.
