The town of Larache was constructed for defence against the attacks of the Portugese and the Spaniards. Spain colonised al-Araich from 1912-1956 as his part of Northern Morocco. -- Here the ‘souk’ – the old market in the medina

A gate to the market in the old medina

Some of the pittoresque streets – going downtown to the port of the fisherman

Mustapha leaving the building of the central market. The colours white/blue for walls and windows of the houses are obliged for the whole town

The Plaza d'Espagna is the central place of the city, part of the Spanish  new town at the entrance of the Medina

The famous French author Jean Genet lived here many years with his Moroccan friends and is buried in this tomb ( you can read his name on the tomb-stone) – Ron next

Jean Genet enjoys now the eternal sound of  the waves of the Atlantic Ocean

Mustapha sitting at sunset on a little boat – crossing the river  – in order to pass from the beach to the city Larache on the hill

A view from the river on the fortress of Larache built in front of the Atlantic Ocean

The same fortress of Larache now from the opposite site - from the coast of the Atlantic Ocean: the rough waves of the sea.

View on the Arab city Larache from the spot of the old Phoenician and Roman city of Lixus. This historical city lies well protected for pirats who could attack from the Atlantic ocean – Therefore this city is build on a hill some miles inside the land – Notice the bassins around the river which allow seasalt winning: on the left you see the dried white-brown salt

Mustapha admiring in Lixus the sea-god Neptunus - a mosaic from Roman times

The sea-god Neptunus - the mosaics from Roman times are unprotected... So to-day, does it still exist...?

Mustapha remembering the games of gladiators with the Moroccan lions of that time - in the central Roman amphitheatre of Lixus

After a long walk Mustapha is taking a rest on a 'lehsera' - a natural handmade mat used in homes and mosks

Mustapha discussing with a woman in the typical dress of the 'jebala'-people of North-west Morocco. This market happens once a week.

Before returning home Mustapha is bargaining on the market to buy some sweets for the kids

Back home in Larache: the family-dinner - but ar first wash your hands, because: ....

The chicken-tagine -  is ready…! Eat with your hands…!

The living statue of Mustapha in the city of Fes (compare the living statues on Dam-square in Amsterdam)
