Yosemite Links

Of course, the National Park Service, which is solely responsible for managing Yosemite, has a Yosemite website.  It includes information on latest news, backpacking, and the great student intern program.

Park Partners

Park Partners are organizations and businesses working in cooperation with the National Park Service. All these pages have current Yosemite information.

• Yosemite Association is a great organization that supports interpretive activities in Yosemite and sponsors the student intern program.

• Yosemite Fund funds important resources and interpretive projects in Yosemite.

• Yosemite Institute provides excellent environmental education in Yosemite.

• Best's Studio/Ansel Adams Gallery has a long history in Yosemite, and has a nice store in Yosemite Valley.

• Yosemite Concessions Services Corporation provides most commercial services in Yosemite.

• Yosemite Area Traveller Information provides (occassionally) updated information.  This system will eventually provide a network of computer-based information kiosks in and around Yosemite.

Groups

Here you'll find groups involved in Yosemite.

• The Sierra Club's Yosemite Committee advocates actions that preserve and restore Yosemite.  The Club also maintains extensive pages about its co-founder, John Muir, and the Hetch Hetchy Task Force, which aims to restore Hetch Hetchy Valley from its current (dammed) condition.

• The Yosemite Restoration Trust also advocates for Yosemite's preservation.

• Friends of Yosemite Valley is working to reduce development in Yosemite, particularly in the Yosemite Lodge/Camp 4 area.

• The Yosemite Guardian advocates a balance of visitor use and preservation in Yosemite.

• The National Parks and Conservation Association and Wilderness Society are national organizations that advocate preservation of Yosemite and other natural areas.

• Native Habitats' Georgia Stigall organizes volunteer work trips  for the NPS in Yosemite to help eradicate non-native species.  She also is a great advocate for wildlife-- read why you should not feed wildlife.

• Steve Spaski hasn't started an organization, but he is on a one-man crusade to educate people about using bear cannisters.  And he has some very nice photos on his home page.
