Cd - Lp - The Best of....
Long-overdue compilation of the rare work
by this enigmatic Latin funk band! Although Chakachas are best known for their heavy
sex-funk classic "Jungle Fever" (included here), they were a pretty far-reaching
band that combined Latin, jazz, funk, and Euro easy styles into a very unique blend of
sounds. The band always had a nice party sound to them, with lively jaunty grooves
augmented by heavy bass work, bubbly organ, and some very nice percussion and other Latin
elements. They only ever issued a handful of records in the US -- and all of them are darn
hard to find in any shape. Now, this compilation brings together their best bits --
including the groovy cut "Stories", which has a similar sing-song approach to
"Jungle Fever", plus "The Party", "Latin Can Can",
"Chica Chica Bau Bau", "Un Rayo Del Sol", "Push Together",
"Bantu", and "Ay Mulata", written by Nico Gomez. 14 cuts in all, with
a fantastic overview of their rare work from the old days !
