| The Fokker F-27 Friendship first flew in 1955. It immediately attracted attention by airlines and airforces worldwide. Maybe the F-27 family was the closest thing to the ideal replacement of the DC-3 AND military C-47. To reach US markets, Fairchild and later Fairchild-Hiller produced the type in licence between 1958 and 1968. | ![]() |
| Production in Holland continued till the follow up Fokker 50 was launched in 1986, reaching a total of 580 units. |

Fokker F-28
Fellowship, 70 and 100
| The Dutch manufacturer decided to build the 65 pax twinjet F-28 Fellowship (stretch 85 pax) in the mid sixties. It had an appeal in underdeveloped countries with its jet appeal and rugged structure. It sold slow but steadily 243 units in 20 years. But seeing the current Regional Jet rage, it might be a trendsetter. | ![]() |
| The Fokker 100, an up-to date re-engined development of the Fokker F-28 Fellowship, made it's first flight in 1986. | The Fokker F-28 might be
noisy, but it's still used in considerable numbers in North
America, Asia and Africa. This Fokker 100 PH-KLH from
KLM was later leased to Air Littoral, returned, and is now

| The cost of developing the Fokker 50 and
100 almost lead to Fokker's demise in 1987. The company seemed to be over
the problems when major orders were coming in. In 1993, the shortened (Fellowship-size)
F-70 flew first. But Fokker kept loosing money and went belly up in 1997.

| Fokker built the Fokker 50 as re-engined follow up of the successful F-27 Friendship. After a reasonable orderbook from the start in 1986 onwards, sales lagged behind the cheaper ATR-42s and DASH-8s. No Fokker 50 has ever been registered in the USA (yet). |

After 1992, production continued at a trickle
while Fokker hoped to attract major military contracts. After the ceasing
of Fokker (after 213 built units), Dutch company 'Forward' tries to re-open
the line for transporters. Download this file (ar. 42 kb). |
