Caroline Herring's debut CD, "Twilight," showcases a remarkable new artist that transcends the boundaries between folk, classic country and bluegrass music. She engages the listener with timeless, spellbinding melodies. Herring weaves tales that evoke Southern themes-tapping the imagery of Faulkner and O'Connor with a gorgeous, soulful voice that is at times reminiscent of early Joan Baez. She possesses the rare ability to tackle oft-times weighty topics with simplicity and grace. On "Twilight," Herring is backed by many of Austin's finest musicians, including acclaimed producer/guitarist John Inmon, bluegrass legend Peter Rowan, Lloyd Maines, Paul Glasse, Eamon McLoughlin and Bryn & Billy Bright. Caroline Herring began her musical journey in her native state of Mississippi. She moved from Canton to Oxford, Mississippi, in order to complete her graduate degree in Southern studies at the University of Mississippi. There she joined the "Sincere Ramblers," a regionally acclaimed bluegrass band whose members founded "Thacker Mountain Radio," a popular program that hosted recording artists such as Gillian Welch and Peter Rowan. After completing her degree, Herring moved to Austin, Texas, lured by the city's legendary music scene. Since moving there, Herring has created a strong buzz, performing alongside Tish Hinojosa and Ray Wylie Hubbard, among others. She is building a substantial following with a weekly happy hour residency at one of Austin's premier venues, Stubb's BBQ. Singing songs of bygone days, Carolina moons and Delta highways, Caroline Herring is a Mississippi star rising in the Texas sky. Her sound will resonate from coast to coast.
