TELETEXT AROUND THE WORLD

Teletext (Teletekst, Videotext, Ceefax (= See Facts) consists of pages of information, such as news and sport, which are viewed on a television set capable of viewing these pages. Often Teletext contains financial information, such as the latest share prices, recipes, entertainment listings, holiday adverts, cinema.
The actual teletext pages are broadcast in a hidden part of the television signal (the Vertical Blanking Interval), and decoded by the television. Teletext pages are accessed by a 3-figure number; on most channels, the front page is on page 100. Its roots lie in the 70s. (1) In March 2000, artworks for TELETEXT pages on Dutch Narional Television were made by 5 artists: Edwin van der Heide, JODI, Joost Rekveld, Maki Ueda, and Wlfr. The project was initiated by Edwin van der Heide. Artworks are on air on the TELETEXT page 379 for 2 months.
(2)The teletext pages of Geneva European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) are a part of their intranet. You can read an explanation. They developed a Java alternative to the classical Teletext interface.

Teletext Online is a (German) website (with partial English translation) of Falko Giesner. You find news about new teletext distribution, the screenshots of over 330 teletext stations in the World, and an ABC of countries with teletext.
