Sir Ferdinand Klein

The most likely candidate for Sir Ferdinand Klein is Francis Ferdinand (1863-1914), heir to the Austrio-Hungarian crown, who was murdered on 28 June 1914 and was known for his diminutative stature (klein is German for "small"). The histories of Venice and Vienna show many similarities and parallels, one of which is in their fall, partly attributed to aristocratic tendencies - hence "Sir."
