axletree

The axletree is the tree of which the axis of Chariots used to be made and in classical times the burning chariot driven by Phoebus was the sun. Eliot refers to a similar image in Seneca's Hercules Furens and Chapman's Bussy D'Ambois, two fragments which he has on at least three different occasions compared to each other.
