Dr Gerco Ballintijn (1972) received his MSc in Computer Science from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (afdeling Informatica) in August 1996. Subsequently, he worked from October 1996 until April 2003 as a research assistant at the Computer Systems group of Prof. Tanenbaum at the Vrije Universiteit. The topic of his PhD thesis was the design and implementation of a scalable wide-area location service. In October 2003, he successfully defended his thesis and obtained his PhD. From July 2003 to June 2006, Gerco Ballintijn worked as a scientific staff member in the SEN1 group at the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI). His research involved the Deliver project, which was headed by Prof. Brinkkemper and Prof. Klint. The Deliver project dealt with the release, delivery, and deployment of product software. After his scientific work, Gerco Ballintijn worked from July 2006 until February 2010 for Tryllian Solutions. This work, most notably, included client software for the Dutch "Landelijk Patienten Dossier" (LPD) at Microbais.

He currently works on interactive 3D graphics software for the US (formerly Dutch) software company rooomy (formerly known as NedSense LOFT). rooomy provides 3D presentation software and services (both interactive and photorealistic) to business in retail and real estate. Besides 3D computer graphics, Gerco Ballintijn's work interests include the technical side of software engineering, such as tool support for software development, comprehension, and renovation, but also includes systems-oriented computer science, such as distributed systems, programming languages, and computer security.
