Stan's ONE-MINUTE Programs Checklist

"Keep on doing these 1-Minute Programs at least 1 time a day (or twice...) and you won't recognize yourself in ONE month"  Stan van de Kerkhof

1 Minute Programs (1mp's)

What is this? Tell me!

Here's my 1-minute-program checklist. If you want the best, just practice these 1-minute programs (1mp's) at least 1 time a day for 1 minute, you won't believe the results after p.ex. one month!
Even better: twice a day. You want to become the best? OK, do it three times a day!

Hands do not play the guitar -the brain does!
Studying=making better=asking yourself questions

-This page is updated frequently so check back every week or so
-You can print this page and keep it on your desk, making alterations (with a blue pencil) as you go along.
-Make alterations to use this list for your instrument. (Guitar, Bass, Saxophone, Trumpet, etc....)
-Before you start always ask yourself: What do I have to do each day to become a TOP-Guitarplayer? (Bassplayer, Saxophoneplayer, etc.)
-But ofcourse first....................The Warming-up

-Play as fast as you can for 1 minute, one on one (alternate picking!)
-Check your pickhand by imitating a Mandolin, with an open string than fill-in your frethand
-Fingers parallel to the frets!
-Listen to the result! (and to the noise from open strings etc..)
-Practice thrillers fingers: 1-2 1-3 1-4 / 2-3 2-4 / 3-4
-Play scales with thrillers on each note

-Tap a scale with your frethand simultaneously with a scale (melody) with your pickhand
-Tap an arpegiated chord with your frethand simultaneously with a scale (melody) with your pickhand
-Play with you frethand on a different string than your pickhand
Back to top

-Try out all the tricks you can think of, or you've ever seen, use your vibrato before/on top/after the tone and do not forget the pickhand-harmonics
Back to top

-Play your arpeggios up and down the fretboard with the root on the 6th and 5th string
Back to top

-1 chord a day keeps the trouble away......Learn everyday ONE new chord (grip) on top of the chord from yesterday (regression-style) and you'll be amazed with the results in 1 month. This is very good for your memory too...

-Put some drums on the computer and Slap away try everything out for ONE minute. Don't forget the Ghost-slaps and Ghost-plucks do it fast!
-Pluck alternate with 1st 2nd and 3th finger!
-Imitate a drumpart or drumbreaks with left and right hands
Back to top

-Retune your guitar at your will and play with your Bottleneck (preferably on the fourth finger-pinky, hold it with your 3th finger too and adjust the top the same height as your middlefinger) for one minute. Let the drums play on your computer.

-Stroke a bass-string with your thumb on every beat of the bar, and so every now and then (not too much) play simultaneously a melody (scales!) with the other fingers. Pay attention to the THUMB not the other fingers
Back to top

-Play along with a program like Jammer for Windows or Band in a Box or just with a CD and remember...... speak the same (musical) language and play what you think (fantasize!!)

-Play Ragtime-guitar for 1 whole minute. Pay attention to the THUMB not the other fingers
