The origin of the Griffon Bleu de Gascogne can be found in the Pyrenees.
It's probably a crossing between the Bleu de Gascogne and the Griffon Vendéen.
It is a hound for the hunt on hare, but most of the Griffon Bleus are used for wild pig hunting. Most hunters love a hound a little larger and bigger, but the last years the breed seems to be more harmoniously.
The Griffon Bleu de Gascogne is a typical example of a French hound (chien courant).
Several French hounds.
Independently (almost obstinate), and faithfully for people they know but conservative to strangers. It is certainly not everybody's friend. Friendship and respect must be obtained by acting consequently and honest and to have an open approach towards the dog. If you don't, you've got a problem. It's not a dog for everyone. However, if you've won the confidence of the Griffon, this will allways remains and then you've got a nice, loving friend in your house.
Outside and in the field it's a great hound. Not very quick but with a great nose and great thorough working spirit and. The barking sound of the Griffon Bleu is wonderfull. Loud and full of depth the noise of the hounds sounds at the hunts in Germany but the Griffons sounds just a little more. You'll never forget the noise of the packs in France.
There are only a dozen of the Griffons Bleu de Gascogne in Holland. The first one arrived in 1987.
