Programmable Bricks |
In 1989 the MIT started research and development of a LEGO Brick with a microprocessor in it, to be used in robots made out of LEGO. The LEGO Dacta line did have some robotics sets but those were controlled by a computer while the Programmable brick could operate on its own.
While LEGO has a few programmable bricks in the Technic line, such as the 'Codepilot' and the 'Scout', creation of LEGO Robotics really started with the RCX programmable brick. Today's Technic line with programmable bricks and sensors is called LEGO Mindstorms.
Visit the MIT website about the first programmable brick.
