Third ship bear this name and also the third of HAL's new Vista -class ships. Her predecessors the Westerdam II now sailing as Costa Europa. The Westerdam I was a cargo-passengership on the route Rotterdam-New York vv.left HAL fleet in 1965.

Sisterships:  Zuiderdam - Oosterdam and Noordam.

 At the end of the building phase, a fire broke out at one of the public rooms. The official delivery date has not been postponed.
During drydock in April 2007 at Palermo the Westerdam get the same lay-out and capacity as the Noordam.
All remaining Vista-ships get the same modification Zuiderdam 2008-Oosterdam 2009.

The design theme reminds of the great history that both Holland and America share.The Dutch were some of the earliest settlers of America and such names as Hoboken, Brooklyn, and  New Amsterdam, which became New York, reflect Dutch heritage in America.
Today the Dutch are one of the biggest investors in the USA.
