Injecting 7H in the afternoon is to much. I will bring this
back to 6H. I felt hypoglycemic symptoms after dinner. This was
surprising me a little bit, because I injected "only"
14H before dinner!
High BG's were caused by the extra carbon hydrates I've eaten.
This evening I will join the bowling competition. That's why I decided to inject 10 H before dinner.

During daytime, I've done a lot of computer work and other work related to my job as secretary of the works council of our lab. This maybe different in some ways to the normal work I'm doing. The high BG in the afternoon surprised me. Maybe this is caused by the additional pastry (sugerfree) I've eaten because a works council member celebrated her birthday!
The diabetic nurse told me last week one slice of bread would be no problem to eat between the normal meals, because the Insulatard insulin could handle this. In my opinion it seems to be different in my occasion.
The following problem occurred: Last week I've injected addition Humalog within 3 hours after injecting Humalog before dinner. This caused a BG drop from very high to very low within half an hour. This time I eat a pastry (about 2 hours after lunch) and this results in a very high BG level 2 hours later. I have to discuss this with the diabetic nurse.
I regret I've not measured my BG before dinner, but after dinner my BG still remained high. I've decided not to inject additional Humalog because I expected problems with bowling. After bowling (I eat some carbon hydrates overt here), I expected a higher BG. I injected only 8I for the basal insulin level and will see what will happen tomorrow.
This afternoon, I will have to do different (more physical) work. That's why I decided to inject 5H (instead of 6H) before lunch.

As expected the 8I I injected Tuesday evening before bedtime was enough. A strange thing happened after breakfast. No additional carbon hydrates were taken and the BG was much to high!!! Also the diabetes nurse has no explanation what could cause this....
This evening I had to practice my stage-play again. I felt some hypo- glycaemic symptoms. BG's were alright.
Because I woke up with hypoglycemic- symptoms I used 6H (instead of 7H) before breakfast.

Because I woke up hypoglycemic-, I injected 6H. Looking back what happened, it seems it didn't give me that much problems, because before lunchtime the BG was within normal level again.
Because I was very busy in the afternoon, I didn't have time to measure my BG's. I regret I didn't take the time to measure it before dinner, because after dinner I felt the hypoglycemic symptoms again. I've corrected this problem by eating some snacks (containing carbon hydrates as well as sugar) and injecting additional Humalog.
Tomorrow morning I've to see what the long term effects are of the used method.
Today I've a day off, so I woke up about 10 AM. Because the meals are closer together, I've injected the 5H (instead of 6H) for lunch. I also injected this after the meal for sure.

This afternoon I've visited the diabetic nurse. Of course we've talked a lot and I've also given her a copy of this logbook. She was very enthusiastic about it! She hoped it would go better after two weeks, because I still have to adjust myself to the BG's which are not in the normal range.
The diabetic nurse and my Doc are familiar with the problems I have to regulate my BG's; When being busy (mental or physical) my BG will drop very fast, while when taking a break the BG will become high very easy.
Great advantage using Humalog for me is to eat my breakfast direct after injection. When using Actrapid I'd to wait a while before I could start eating. Also I had to eat little by little to prevent high BG's!
The high BG after dinner is caused by the following: I had to drive to Breda, about 250 km (180 miles) from Leeuwarden. When I was about 100 km from home, I've measured my BG. This was to high, so I injected 2H additional. Of course I took enough bread with me, just in case.... I didn't need additional bread. Before nightlife my BG was to high as well. This is caused by a sweet drink I've taken. Therefore I injected 1H before we went downtown.
After the great party downtown, my BG had dropped. Therefore I eat a handful of gingerbread cubes to prevent a hypo during the night.
Of course I woke up late this day. This evening we will enjoy the great movie of Eddie Murphy: The Nutty Professor and afterwards we will enjoy the nightlife of Breda again!

Comments:
When I awoke the BG was alright, so eating gingerbread cubes before sleeping seems to be a good idea! :-)
Because we went downtown after the movie directly, I didn't take my BG machine with me. This is also the reason I didn't split the Insulatard injection in two parts. As you can see, it would be better when I had done this as usual!
Of course I woke up very late again. Later this afternoon I had to go back to Leeuwarden.

I wrote this just before sleeping. Although the BG was above 10, I think this will be in normal range tomorrow morning with my Insulatard injection.
| General findings about this weekend: |
This was another busy weekend with lots of things taking place. Although the BG's were higher comparing to last weekend, they were most of the time below 10 mmol/l.
