(mmol/l):

Insulin: Additional comments:
Before breakfast 4.5 7H

3 hours after dinner 5.3
4 hours after dinner 7.4
Before sleeping 14.7 6I (+2H additional)
Comments:

After correcting the hypo, I'm updating this logbook.... I've eaten much more carbon hydrates!! Tomorrow I will visit the diabetic nurse and discuss this....

November 12, Tuesday

This afternoon, I've discussed the results. If the BG before breakfast is below 5 mmol/l I will inject less insulin (4H). Before lunch 5H will be fine (depends on the BG before lunch and the kind of food of course). Before dinner I will inject 8H.

Time: BG's

(mmol/l):

Insulin: Additional comments:
Before breakfast 1.1 7H
2 hours after breakfast 5.5
half an hour before lunch 2.2 6H + 4I I've eaten 2 slices of bread additionally, because I felt hyp glycaemic symptoms. At lunch I ate much more food then usual!
2 hours after lunch 15.4   I've eaten to much!!
Before dinner 13.3 4H
2 hours after dinner 13.7
Before sleeping 10.4 6I

Comments:

This morning I woke with hypo-glycaemic symptoms. Because I didn't inject less insulin, I've eaten 2 slices of bread extra. During lunch I also had hypo symptoms so I've eaten much more then usual! Of course this is the cause of the high BG's during the afternoon. In the future I will inject less insulin before breakfast when the BG is low!

This evening I went to Groningen (about 35 miles (50 km)) from Leeuwarden. Because I had eaten so much this day, I only injected 4H before dinner and eat 2 slices of bread (instead of 4). Of course I took bread with me when I went to Groningen, but I didn't need it...

November 13, Wednesday

Time: BG's

(mmol/l):

Insulin: Additional comments:
Before breakfast 9.9 7H
2 hours after breakfast 9.6
half an hour before lunch 5.5 6H + 4I
4 hours after lunch 12.0
Before dinner 10.5 8H
2 hours after dinner 11.5
Before sleeping 5.3 6I I've eaten some gingerbread cubes.

November 14, Thursday

Time: BG's

(mmol/l):

Insulin: Additional comments:
Before breakfast 3.0 7H
2 hours after breakfast 12.9
Before lunch 6.0 6H + 4I
Before dinner 13.0 8H
3.5 hours after dinner: 8.4
Before nightlife 3.3
Before sleeping 15.7 6I (+2H additional)
Comments:

Because I was very busy this afternoon, maybe this has caused the high BG before dinner (stress factor?). Because I don't have to go to work tomorrow, I decided to enjoy the nightlife of Leeuwarden again... :-)!

November 15, Friday

Time: BG's

(mmol/l):

Insulin: Additional comments:
Before brunch 8.4 7H
2.5 hours after brunch 6.6
Before dinner   8H
2 hours after dinner: 7.1
Before nightlife 2.0 4I I've eaten carbon hydrates additionally
Before sleeping 4.2 2I
Comments:

Another day off, so I woke up late again (after having fun downtown!).

This afternoon I discussed the current insulin regimen with my Doc and he also wanted to measure my HbA1c (average BG level during the last 2 months). He thinks it will be below 7 mmol/l, but I'm not sure about that. I just have to wait for the results.. ;-).

Before nightlife I had to eat some additional carbon hydrates for correction. Everything else went fine!

General findings of this week:

The switch to this insulin regimen (2 Insulatard injections per day) was more complicated then expected. I had to eat much more during the first two day to prevent problems. Since Wednesday everything went better and I feel more comfortable. When taking a special look at the BG's during the evening this is much better!

It still seems to be complicated to keep the BG's below 10 during the whole day. When injecting a little more Humalog before the meals, the BG's stay below 10 after the meal, but it will drop very fast after 2 hours. When injecting less Humalog the BG will raise above 10 mmol/l (but not to much). This seems to be acceptable for me.

November 16, Saturday

Time: BG's

(mmol/l):

Insulin: Additional comments:
Before brunch 6.2 6H + 4I
2 hours after brunch 12.0
Before dinner 9.9 8H
2 hours after dinner: 3.9   Later I eat some carbon hydrates
Before nightlife   4I
Before sleeping 4.2 2I I've eaten a hamburger with bread

Comments:

BG was low when I returned home from nightlife. Maybe this is caused by my swing activities downtown! :-) Because it's not possible to inject uneven units Insulatard, I will try to change the Insulatard injections before nightlife and before sleeping (2I and 4I).

November 16, Sunday

Time: BG's

(mmol/l):

Insulin: Additional comments:
Before brunch 5.0 6H + 4I
Half an hour before dinner 20.1 2H additional
Before dinner 19.3 8H
2 hours after dinner 8.2
Before sleeping 11.5 6I

Comments:

I forgot to inject 4I before brunch (I injected this about 4.00 PM). I'm not sure what went wrong here, but everything went alright after dinner.

General findings of this weekend

Most of the things went alright. I was stupid to forget the 4I injection before brunch Sunday. Maybe this caused the extreme high BG's later this afternoon. It wasn't to difficult correcting this!

Some decisions I've made:

  1. I will keep using this insulin regimen during the weekends.
  2. Before nightlife I will inject 2I and before sleeping 4I
