1. Setting default options: Retry and email address When you have installed eLeetFTP, the first thing you will need to do is set the defaults. If you don't do this you will likely be banned from most, if not all, of the FTP servers in the newsgroup. Close the splash screen and the Quick Connect dialogue that pop up when you first start, then open the File menu in the top left of the window. From this menu, select Options... Enter at least 60 in the Automatically retry connection every ## seconds field.. Enter your email address in the Anonymous Password field. This doesn't have to be your real email address assigned by your ISP but it is good practice to use a valid email address. you can use a "throw away" address from one of the many free servers like www.hotmail.com or www.yahoo.com. Click the OK button to save your changes and close the dialogue. 2. Connecting to a site Now you're ready to connect to a site, click the first icon on the tool bar or select Quick Connect from the Connect menu. To quickly connect without adding the site to your site list, simply type the site address in the URL field (this will be either a string or 4 numbers separated by periods, eg. kingpin.dynip.com or 123.123.123.123) and the port number in the Port field. If a port was not specified for the site, it will most likely be the default FTP port 21. Next, if you want to log in to this site anonymously, select the Anonymous radio button in the Login control group. If, on the other hand, a user name and password are specified for the site, select the Authenticate radio button and enter them in the appropriate fields. All that's left to do is click the OK button to connect. 3. Adding a site to Favorites If you would like to keep the connection information about a site you can add it to your Favorites. You can do this in two ways.
When you are already connected to the site you can click the Add to Favorites button (second from the left on the toolbar) or select Add to Favorites... from the Favorites menu. When the Add Site to Favorites dialogue opens, simply select the appropriate folder, type in a name for the site, and click the OK button. There are two advantages to using this method. First, you know that the settings for the site are correct, since you're already connected, and second, this is the only dialogue in which you can add a new folder to your favorites list. To do so, just click the New Group... button, type in a name for your folder, and press enter.
The second way is to select Organize Favorites... from the Favorites menu. Select a folder in which to put your new site and fill in the fields. 4. Adding a new folder in Favorites While connected to a site choose Add to Favorites... from the Favorites menu. The Add Site to Favorites dialogue will pop up. this is the only dialogue in which you can add a new folder to your favorites list. To do so, just click the New Group... button, type in a name for your folder, and press enter.
